Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included record keeping, building inspection form for the child care part of the building (E-use); background check requirements .

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection took place today from 10 am - 1 pm. There 69 children present today in four classrooms with 9 staff. I observed children busy with individual Montessori projects including sorting, classifying, stacking and sequencing. Children were also observed singing and making plans Friends/Kindness/Valentine's day.; and playing in the gym. The outdoor area was not inspected due to weather. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-160-C
Description: Based on a review of staff records today, there were some staff that did not have results of current tuberculosis screenings.
Evidence:
Staff who had results of TB screenings that expired after two years included Staff # 1 (8/19), Staff # 2 (8/19), Staff # 3 (1/19) and Staff # 4 (2/19).

Plan of Correction: They will all go for their updates as soon as possible.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, hazardous substances were not kept in a locked place as required.
Evidence:
In the unlocked staff bathroom in the unlocked staff lounge today, cleaners were observed stored under the sink, and a bottle of cleaner was on a shelf at child height.

Plan of Correction: We put a sign on the door and a better door mechanism to keep the area off limits to children but we will also lock up any cleaners.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1721.1-B-3
Description: Based on a review of staff records today, not all staff had all completed background checks as required.
Evidence:
Staff # 4,(date of hire: 5/17) who indicated previous residences in two states in the past five years, did not have the results of the Search for the Child Protective Registry for those states as required by the updated background check standards .
Staff # 5 (date of hire:12/17) indicated a previous residence in another state but did not have results of the Search of the Child Registry for that state.

Plan of Correction: We will get the Central Registry checks as soon as possible.
