An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on February 13, 2020 from approximately 12:20 PM to 3:00 PM to determine the center's compliance with licensing standards. The following staff-to-child ratios were observed in the classrooms: Infants 2:5, Older Infants 1:4, Toddlers1:4, 2 year olds 2:11, 3 year olds 1:8, and 4 year olds 2:17. Lunch today consisted of beenies and weenies, carrots, mashed potatoes, bread, pineapples, and milk. The staff were observed to be engaged with the children in age appropriate activities and to be meeting the needs of the children in care. Most but not all areas of the facility were inspected. The required postings were observed in the facility. The first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. The last evacuation drill was conducted on 1/30/20. The last shelter-in-place drill was conducted on 9/24/19. The Emergency Preparedness plan is current. Health Inspection: 4/29/19. Fire Inspection: 6/20/19. Medications and authorizations were reviewed. There were staff present who are certified in medication administration, daily health observation, First Aid, and CPR. 6 children's records, 6 staff records, and 2 agent records were reviewed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-290-3 Description: Based on observations, the center did not ensure all electrical outlets contained protective covers. Evidence: The licensing inspector observed two outlets in the four year old classroom that did not contain protective covers. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-J Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure that medication shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: The licensing inspector observed packets of non-prescription medication located in an unlocked first aid kit on the bus. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on a review of medication and medication records, the center did not ensure that when an authorization for medication expires; that within 14 days. the parent must pick up the medication or the center shall dispose of the medication by either dissolving it down the sink or flushing it down the toilet. Evidence: The authorization for medication at the center belonging to Child #6 expired on 12/2/19. Plan of Correction: The medication will be returned to the parent today.
