An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted with center staff on February 21, 2020 to determine compliance with licensing standards. There were 43 school age children present with five staff actively supervising. The children were arriving from school, playing in the gym, eating afternoon snack, and making waffles. Snack served today: pears and cheese sticks. Five children's files were reviewed and are in compliance. Three medications for two children were reviewed; two staff are current in Medication Administration Training. Time of today's inspection: 3:50 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A Description: Based on review of the medication authorization form for two medications, the facility failed to have written parental authorization to administer medication to one child. Evidence: the medication authorizations on file for Child B give parental permission for elementary school personnel to administer the medicine, but does not specifically authorize the YMCA to administer the medication. Plan of Correction: Center staff will obtain written parental authorization for the facility to administer the medication to Child 2.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N Description: Based on review of three medications and staff interview, the facility did not return medications to parents within 14 days of the expiration of the authorization. Evidence: the short term medication authorization for one medication for Child A expired after ten days. The medications were not returned to the parents within 14 days of the expired authorization or discarded or destroyed. Plan of Correction: The medication will be returned to the parent or will be discarded.
