An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted on 2/26/20 from 10:15am until 1:00pm. At the time of entrance, there were 113 children in care with 15 staff. A sample of 10 children's records and 10 staff records were reviewed. Children were observed participating in morning learning activities, playing outside, eating lunch and resting quietly during nap time. Diapering, restroom and hand washing procedures were also observed. Medication, first aid and emergency supplies, the emergency preparedness plan, documentation of emergency practice drills, children's injury reports and center postings were reviewed. One violation in the area of background checks is identified on the violation notice and was discussed with the administrator during the exit interview.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-2 Description: Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the licensee did not ensure that all employees hired prior to January 22, 2018 have a completed fingerprint based national criminal history record check by September 30, 2018.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff 1 (owner) does not contain documentation of a completed fingerprint based national criminal history record check. There was a completed Virginia criminal record check dated 5/19/16.
2. The record for staff 2 (owner) does not contain documentation of a completed fingerprint based national criminal history record check. There was a completed Virginia criminal record check dated 5/19/16.
3. Staff 1 and staff 2 confirmed that they had not completed the fingerprint based background check.Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff 1 and staff 2 have appointments scheduled for 2/27/20 to complete the fingerprint background check. Once received, the results will be placed in staff 1 and staff 2's file and forwarded to licensing.
