Standard 570.H reviewed at the request of staff:
Formula or breast milk shall not remain unrefrigerated for more than two hours and may not be reheated.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 02/24/2020 from 9:15 am - 1:46 pm. At the time of entrance there were 142 children in care with 22 teaching staff and five administrative staff. The children in care ranged in age from infant - five years. Children were observed during morning program time which included snack and outdoor play. Nap was additionally reviewed.
Records were reviewed for nine staff and ten children.

Areas of noncompliance are listed on the violation notice and were reviewed with administrative staff at the conclusion of the inspection.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that outside equipment of the center shall be maintained in a safe condition.

Evidence:
1. Two nails were protruding from a landscaping board attached to the fence on the younger preschool playground.
a. The nails were on the outside of the board facing the street and were accessible to children if they were to place their hand outside of the fence.

Plan of Correction: Self tapping screws that were protruding from the outside of the aluminum fence were removed on 2/24/2020.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-E
Description: Based on medication review, the center failed to ensure that medication shall be labeled with the child's name.

Evidence:
1. One bottle of over-the-counter medication was not labeled with the child's name.
a. The medication was inside of a labeled plastic bag.

Plan of Correction: Medication was properly labeled.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-K
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that tables shall be sanitized after each use for feeding.

Evidence:
1. The two tables in the two-year old class were not sanitized after completion of morning snack.
a. The tables were cleaned with a disinfectant solution however, the tables were immediately wiped down with a cloth towel.
b. The definition of sanitized requires that the tables are allowed to air dry after application of the disinfectant solution.

Plan of Correction: 4 follow-up training was provided to teachers by the Director regarding proper sanitizing procedures.
