- mats used by the children during naptime

Comments:
An unannounced renewal inspection was completed today. The physical plant, 5 staff files, 10 children's files, staff training, child nutrition, children's activities, medication, emergency procedures, drills and supplies were inspected between 2:00-3:50pm. There were 170 children under the supervision of 32 staff. During the inspection, children were observed enjoying free play, listening to a teacher read a book, resting during naptime, eating afternoon snack, coloring pictures and playing outside on the playground. For lunch, the children were served cheese ravioli, with tomato sauce, olive oil and basil, fresh peas, apples and milk. The interactions between the children and staff were seen to be positive and constructive in nature. Should you have any questions, please contact me at mary.wizbicki@dss.virginia.gov.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-E
Description: Based on observations, there were occupied rest mats, which did not have a minimum of 12 inches of space between them.
Evidence
1. In the Pre-K classroom, there were 3 children sleeping on rest mats which were placed right next to each other, without any space between them.

Plan of Correction: The teacher was notified and will make sure to keep this spacing on mats when used.
