An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 9:10am-11:30am. At the time of entrance,56 children were in care with 23 staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, coloring, working on rhyme word worksheets, looking at books, playing in centers,diaper changes, washing hands, playing at the sensory table, engaged in group activities and outdoor play time. The site was clean, organized and contained an abundant supply of developmentally appropriate materials. Interactions between the children and staff were positive. A selection of staff and children records, the physical space, evacuation drills, attendance records, medications and the Emergency Preparedness Plan were reviewed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A Description: Based on observation, areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, were not maintained in a safe and operable condition.
Evidence:
1. In the Hippo classroom, the paint was chipping near the ABC window.
2. In the Bear Cub bathroom,.the cabinet handle is missing a screw and is not connected on one side of the handle.
3. In the Bunnies classroom, a large pink cushion corner is coming apart in the corner.
4. On the playground, there is 3 visible cracks in the turf approximately 12 inches long and a patch missing approximately the size of an adult hand near the slide. There are several smaller cracks on the turf. Two rocking horse riding toys are missing handles.Plan of Correction: We will paint over the paint chipping by 3/31.
We will have cabinet handle fixed by 3/31.
We will order a replacement cushion by 3/31.
We will dispose of riding toys and will purchase new ones.
We will being expanding and improving our playground. This should be completed by 1/20/2021.
