Comments:
A Subsidy Health and Safety inspection was conducted on 03/10/2020 from 9:15 to 11:30 am to review supplemental health and safety requirements. The children were observed playing outside, reading bible stories, and playing with table top toys. A formal observation was completed. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection, and the inspector interacted with children in each classroom when appropriate. All areas utilized by children were inspected. Records were reviewed for seven staff and five children.

The center does not provide meals. Children bring food from home.
The center administers medication; however they did not have any being given at this time.

Injury reports were reviewed as well as the center?s injury prevention plan which was updated in 2019.

The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected.

Census: There were 20 children in attendance during the inspection.

A licensing inspection was also conducted this date; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. Violations were found during the supplemental subsidy health and safety inspection requirements and are identified on the violation notice.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-580-E-1
Description: Based on record review and interview, the vendor did not ensure that all staff have current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the age of children in care within 90 days of the date of employment.

Evidence:
1. The record of staff #5 (DOH: 06/03/2019) did not contain a current CPR certification.
2. The director confirmed that the staff had not received their CPR certification.

Plan of Correction: Employee will obtain First Aid/CPR on 03/21/2020.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-580-E-2
Description: Based on record review and interview, the vendor did not ensure that all staff have current certification in First Aid within 90 days of the date of employment.

Evidence:
1. The record of staff #5 (DOH: 06/03/2019) did not contain a current First Aid certification.
2. The director confirmed that the staff had not received their First Aid certification.

Plan of Correction: Employee will obtain First Aid and CPR on 03/21/2020.

Description: Based on record review and interview, the vendor did not ensure that two of seven staff had completed the department's annual Preservice Health and Safety Update course.

Evidence:
1. The record of Staff #1 (DOH: 11/20/2017), and Staff #6 (DOH: 03/01/2019) did not contain documentation of completion of the Preservice Health and Safety Update.
2. Staff confirmed that the updates had not been completed.

Plan of Correction: Staff will update Preservice training by 03/13/2020.
