This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 6/18/20 and concluded on 6/23/20. The center owner was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There was 1 child present and 2 staff. The inspector emailed the center owner a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 1 children?s record and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on record review and interview, the center did not ensure that staff records contain all the required information.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff 1 (hire date: 5/5/19) does not contain documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment.
2. The center owner confirmed that the references for staff 1 were completed but were not documented in the record, as required by the standards.Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: The center owner will contact the references for staff 1 again and document the reference checks in the record. Going forward, we will ensure all reference checks are documented in staff records.
