Technical Assistance:
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A renewal inspection was initiated on 6/11/2020 and concluded on 6/11/2020. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 65 children /present and 9 staff present on 3/13/2020 which was the last date of operation before closing. The inspector emailed the director/provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children?s records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F
Description: Based on a review of the center's most recent menu and interview, the licensee did not follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Evidence:
The menu provided for review, which was dated March 9 - 13 2020, listed pudding and water on 9/14/2020 and popcorn and water on 9/15/2020 for the afternoon snack being served to children. The Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) recommendations require 2 food components for snacks. Water does not count as a food component.

Plan of Correction: The licensee stated that she misunderstood the requirements and would ensure that snacks provide 2 food components going forward.
