Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for annual fire inspections. The risk assessment for a violation was provided.

Also, we reviewed the requirements for background checks for new staff and the additional requirements for staff who have lived outside of Virginia during the previous five years. It is important for administrative staff to review all licensing memos sent by email and ensure that all new requirements are complied with.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on July 21, 2020 and concluded on July 21, 2020. The director/provider or in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were fifty children present and thirteen staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed three children?s records and four staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and a violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-260-A
Description: Based on a review of the fire inspection report, and interviews with administrative staff, the center failed to obtain an annual fire inspection report. Evidence: The most recent fire inspection report for the building was completed on February 21, 2019 and due for another inspection by February 2020. Administrative staff indicated they did not request the annual inspection. The center closed temporarily due to the pandemic and the fire inspection was not requested after the center reopened on May 26, 2020.

Plan of Correction: Administrative staff requested an annual fire inspection and the fire inspector scheduled the inspection for Friday, July 24, 2020. The director will keep track of due dates for annual inspections and make sure the requests are made ahead of twelve months from the last date of a report.
