Technical Assistance:
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 07/27/20 and concluded on 07/30/20. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 47 children present and 11 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-270-A
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all areas and equipment of the center were maintained in a safe condition.
Evidence:
In the school-age room there were tall cubby shelves that were not secured to the wall. The director described the wooden shelves as "heavy."

Plan of Correction: The following plan of correction was provided y the director during the exit interview:
The director will have the cubby shelves sercured.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-330-B
Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure the required resilient surfacing was under playground equipment.
Evidence:
The large composite structure on the school-age playground and the 2 year-old playground did not have any resileint surfacing underneath the equipment.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview:
The center has had some challenges getting mulch delivered. She will contact maintenance today and arrange for mulch to be delivered as soon as possible. In the meantime, children will not use the playground equipment.
