63.2(17) License & Registration Procedures

Technical Assistance:
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 08/03/2020 and concluded on 08/06/2020. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were (#) children present. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 3 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-440-J
Description: Based on observation the center did not ensure all requirements were met when cribs are occupied.
Evidence:
Two infants were observed sleeping in cribs that did not have at least 12 inches of space between them. There was a high chair in between the two occupied cribs.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview.
The high chair was moved from between the two cribs. The director will remind staff of the spacing requirements.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on a record review the center did not ensure all staff had a an out-of-state central registry check pursuant to ? 63.2-1515.
Evidence
Staff #1 listed on the sworn statement of affirmation statement dated 06/25/20, having lived outside of the state of Virginia within the past 5 years. The center did not have documentation of having sent for the out-of-state central registry check.

Plan of Correction: The following corrective action was provided by the director during the exit interview:
The director did not realize a CPS check was needed for this staff since she has been employed with the center for a while. The director will send for the out-of-state check this week.
