This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A renewal inspection was completed on August 17, 2020. The provider was contacted by telephone (video call) to initiate the inspection. There were 26 children present and in the care of six staff members. The inspector was able to view all required documentation. Three staff records and three children's records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined a non-compliance with applicable standards or law and the violation was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3 Description: Based on the review of three staff records and verification from the director, the record for one staff member did not contain one of the required background checks.
Evidence:
1. The record for Staff Member #2 did not contain a completed out-of-state search of the child abuse and neglect registry from the state the staff member had lived in within the past five years. Date of hire for Staff Member #2 was 03/06/2020.
2. The director confirmed that the correct out-of-state background check had not been completed.Plan of Correction: The director had inadvertently requested and received a completed out-of-state criminal history check from the state the staff member had previously resided instead of requesting the out-of-state search of the child abuse and neglect registry. She will immediately request the correct out-of-state background check.
