22VAC40-185 STAFFING AND SUPERVISION.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was conducted on October 16, 2020. A self-reported incident was received by the department regarding allegations in the areas of the care and protection of a child. The director was contacted by telephone to conduct the investigation.
The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the self-report of non-compliance with standards or law and violations were issued. Contact nancy.radcliffe@dss.virginia.gov with any concerns regarding this inspection.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-A
Description: Based on staff interviews, staff while supervising children did not always ensure their care and protection.
Evidence:
While under the supervision of staff #1, child #1, who is allergic to nuts, was exposed to bird seed that contained nuts while playing in the sensory table.

Plan of Correction: Effective immediately staff will read all labels before exposing the children to materials.
