Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 10/19/2020 and concluded on 10/29/2020. The administrator was contacted by email to initiate the inspection. There were 6 children present and 2 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 children?s records and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2
Description: Based upon review of two staff records, the facility has not ensured that the results of a child protective services (CPS) central registry search are obtained within 30 days of employ or the employee is denied employ.
Evidence:
1. The record provided for staff 2 indicated a hire date of 9/5/2020. Results of a CPS central registry search have not been received, there was no documentation of follow-up with the office of background investigations (OBI) and the employee was not denied employ.
2. The facility administrator confirmed that results of the CPS central registry had not yet been received.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
The CPOS central registry search was not requested in a timely fashion, thus the results have not yet been received. In the future, CPS Central Registry Searches will be requested within upon employ and if results are not received within 30 days, OBI will be contacted for follow-up.

Description: Based upon review of two staff records, the facility has not ensured that the results of a child protective services (CPS) central registry search are obtained from any state other than Virginia in which the applicant has lived within the past five years..
Evidence:
1. The record provided for staff 2 indicated a hire date of 9/5/2020. Results of a CPS central registry search from a state (SC) in which the employee reported living within the past five years have not been received.
2. The facility administrator confirmed that results of the CPS central registry had not ben requested.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded with the following:
Results of an out-of-state central registry check were not requested for this employee. A central registry check will be immediately requested. In the future central registry checks will be immediately requested for any potential employee.
