Technical Assistance:
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the owner COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 11/13/2020. The owner was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were (36) children present with (6) classroom staff, in (6) groups. The inspector emailed the owner a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed (3) children?s records and (5) new staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined a non-compliance with applicable standards or law and was documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

If you should have any questions, please call or send an email to charles.perkins@dss.virginia.gov. Thank you.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1721.1-B-4
Description: Based on review and interview, 1 of 5 new staff files reviewed indicated that the child day center (CDC), did not obtain a copy of the results of a sex offender registry check from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years.

Evidence -
1. On the date of inspection (11/13/2020), it was revealed on the Sworn Disclosure Statement (SDS) dated and completed on 08/24/2020 by Staff #1, that he currently lives out of state.
2. The Owner stated (during an interview conducted on the date of inspection) that a check of the sex offender registry from that state was not requested. The start date for Staff #1 was listed as 08/26/2020. This requirement went into effect on 07/01/2020.

Plan of Correction: Corrected later that evening on the date of inspection. Documentation from the State of Maryland sex offender registry for Staff #1 showed that there was no listing on this site for this employee.
