Social distancing practices were discussed.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 11/30/2020 and concluded on 12/7/2020. The director was contacted by email to initiate the inspection. There were 101 children, 17 staff and 4 administrative staff present. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A
Description: Based upon review of five staff records and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment .
1. The records provided for staff 2, hired 12/4/20, staff 3. hired8/24/20, staff 4, hired 9/21/20 and staff 5, hired 12/4/20 did not include documentation that two or more references as to character, reputation and competency were checked before employment.
2, Staff 6 confirmed that reference checks were not obtained for staff 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Description: Based upon review of five staff records, the facility has not ensured that an employee is denied continued employment if the facility does not have a child protective services (CPS) central registry finding within 30 days of employment.
Evidence:
1. The record provided for staff 3 indicated a date of employment of 8/24/2020. The record did not include results of a CPS central registry search. Staff 3 was on duty with the children during the inspection.
2. The record provided for staff 4 indicated a date of employment of 9/21/2020. The record did not include results of a CPS central registry search.
Staff 4 was on duty with the children during the inspection.

Description: Based upon review of five staff records and staff interview, the facility has not ensured that they obtain criminal history record information from any state in which the applicant has resided in the previous five years.
Evidence:
1. The record provided for staff 5, hired on 12/4/202, indicated that staff 5 resided in a state other than Virginia within the past five years. The facility did not obtain results of a criminal history record check prior to the hire of staff 5.
2. Staff 6 confirmed that a criminal history record search was not obtained for staff 5 from a state in which staff 5 lived within the past five years.
