Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on January 14, 2021 and concluded on January 14, 2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 33 children present and six staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed three children?s records and three staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N
Description: Based on review of children's medication, the facility did not ensure when an authorization for medication expires, the parent was notified that the medication needs to be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization.

Evidence:

The medication authorization for child #4 expired 08/31/2020. The authorization had not been renewed and the medication was still on site exceeding the 14 day allowance.

Plan of Correction: Per the director: I will have the parent provide an updated medication authorization for the child.

Standard #: 22VAC40-191-60-C-2
Description: Based on review of staff records and interview, the facility did not obtain a central registry finding within 30 days of employment or volunteer service.

Evidence:

1. Staff #1, hired 09/02/2020, did not have a central registry finding on record exceeding 30 days from hire.
2. Staff #2, hired 11/02/2020, did not have a central registry finding on record exceeding 30 days from hire.
3. Staff #3, hired 11/05/2020, did not have a central registry finding on record exceeding 30 days from hire.
4. The owner/director stated she did not have completed central registry checks for the three staff.

Plan of Correction: Per the owner/ director: The central registry checks were requested and mailed. I forgot to include the payment and they were returned. I resubmitted them and had not followed up. I will follow up and obtain the missing documentation.
