Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 01/13/2021 and concluded on 01/19/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 72 children present and 11 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed 4 staff records and 4 children's records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The licensing inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care Programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
1. A bottle of bleach and water was observed sitting on the counter, behind the diapering table, in the infant classroom.
1. A bottle of bleach and water was observed sitting in the sink, behind the diapering table, in the toddler classroom.

Plan of Correction: All staff will be retrained on or before 1/27/21 regarding proper chemical storage policies. Management will observe weekly for compliance.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-D
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that cleaning and sanitizing materials shall be stored in areas physically separate from food.

Evidence:
1. A plate of food, for lunch, was observed sitting on a counter beside a bottle of bleach and a bottle of soapy water in the infant classroom.

Plan of Correction: All staff will be retrained on or before 1/27/21 regarding food safety and chemical storage. Management will observe weekly for compliance.
