Technical Assistance:
Discussed documentation of health inspections.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A renewal inspection was initiated on January 26, 2021 and concluded on January 28, 2021. The program director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 94 children present and 15 staff. The inspector emailed the program director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 5 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-N
Description: Based on documentation review and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure when an authorization for medication expires, the parent shall be notified that the medication needs to be picked up within 14 days or the parent must renew the authorization. Medications that are not picked up by the parent within 14 days will be disposed of by the center by either dissolving the medication down the sink or flushing it down the toilet..

Evidence: The medication for child #1, albuterol has an expired authorization as of 11/05/2020 and the medication had not been retuned to the parent or disposed of.

Plan of Correction: Medicine was given to the parent on 1-27-2021. Program Director informed parent to return medicine with updated form.
