Technical Assistance:
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A Renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 2/3/2021. The area manager was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 17 children present and 3 staff. The inspector emailed the area manager a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 children?s records and 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-C
Description: Based on a review of medication stored on site, the licensee did not demonstrate that the center's procedures for administering medication ensure that long-term prescription drug use and over-the-counter medication are only allowed with written authorization from both the child's physician and parent.

Evidence:
The licensee provided access to view what was deemed the only medication stored on site. This prescription medication was documented as being administered daily to a child in care for the current school year.
The authorization form was signed by the child's parent but was not signed by the child's physician as is required for long term or prescription medication administration.

Plan of Correction: The area manager stated that the parent would be contacted the same day and required to have a physician signed authorization form by the end of the week or the medication would be returned to the parent so that the parent could administer the medication herself or himself.
