This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A non-mandated inspection was conducted on February 5, 2021. A self-reported incident was received by the department regarding allegations in the areas special care and provisions. The director was contacted by telephone to conduct the investigation. Three staff records were reviewed, four staff interviews, and virtual classroom observations were conducted.
The evidence gathered during the investigation did not support the self-report of non-compliance with the standard or law. One violation was cited not related to the self-report. The violation can be found on the violation notice issued to the center.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-3 Description: Based on a review of staff records, the center failed to ensure that an out-of-state child abuse and neglect registry background check was completed with in 30 days of a staff member moving out of state.
Evidence:
1. Staff #1's record did not contain an out-of-state child abuse and neglect registry background check.
2. Staff #1 confirmed that they currently reside outside of Virginia, and that they moved in mid-January 2020.
3. Administration verified that there was not an out-of-state child abuse and neglect registry background check completed on Staff #1.Plan of Correction: Administration had the staff member fill out the request for an out-of-state central registry background check immediately, and placed in the mail the next day. In the future administration will make sure if staff move out-of-state, they complete the background check at the time of the move. Administration will provide the Licensing Inspector evidence within 10 business days that the background check has been submitted or completed.
