Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on February 10, 2021 and concluded on February 12, 2021. The in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 49 children present and 10 staff. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 4 children?s records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4
Description: Based on review of 4 staff records and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure an the child day center obtained a copy of the results of a child protective service check and a sex offender registry check from any state in which the applicant has resided in the preceding five years. The center shall conduct the search in whatever state and local recordkeeping systems are available in order to obtain complete data before reporting to the child day center.

Evidence: The record for staff #1, first date of employment 1-4-2021 did not contain a sex offender registry search or search of the central registry from North Carolina, where staff #1 had lived within the last 5 years. Staff #1 was confirmed working during the inspection.

Plan of Correction: The personnel file contained an in-state sex offender registry/search of the central registry from North Carolina. We requested an out of state search from the same NC state office on 2/12/2021
