This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 2/9/2021 and concluded on 2/10/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were sixteen children present and five staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed two children?s records and two staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-2 Description: Based on review of two staff records, the center did not obtain documentation of the results of a national fingerprint background check prior to employment for one staff member. Evidence: Orientation training for Staff A was dated 8/10/2020; the fingerprint results for Staff A were dated 8/19/2020. Plan of Correction: Callahan Learning Center requires all employees to have the required background checks prior to supervision of children. The employee in this violation was never allowed to supervise children and had the required background checks completed before supervision of children was allowed. All potential staff are required to obtain the Criminal background check before orientation and onboarding.
