Technical Assistance:

1) Subsidy Standard 530: Allergy Action Plans - A written allergy care plan is required for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction. 2) Documentation of the TB test/screening shall be submitted at the time of employment and prior to coming into contact with children. The documentation shall have been completed within the last 30 calendar days of the date of employment and be signed by a physician, physician's designee, or an official of the local health department. 3) Within 90 days of hire, all staff must complete the Virginia Preservice (10 hour) Training for Child Care Staff. The (3 hour) Virginia Annual Health and Safety Update Training must be completed within 1 year from the date on the Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff certificate.

Comments:

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was initiated on 2/4/2021 and concluded on 2/12/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 27 children present with six staff supervising. A licensing inspection was also conducted on this date. Both inspections combined cover subsidy health and safety regulations. Only subsidy regulations that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. The information gathered during the inspection determined violations with subsidy regulations that are documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. Standard #:	22VAC40-665-500-F
Description:	Based on review of documentation, and staff interview, it was determined that the facility did not maintain a current written list of all children's allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. Evidence: child #6, with a diagnosed food allergy, was not listed on the written allergy list.
Plan of Correction:	Staff stated they will correct the written allergy list plan and ensure that it is kept up to date.

Description:	Based on review of documentation and staff interview, not all children with a diagnosed food allergy had a written allergy care plan with instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction. Evidence: the record for child #6, with a diagnosed food allergy, did not have a written allergy action plan.
