Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 2/25/2021 and concluded on 3/01/2021. The director was contacted virtually to initiate the inspection. There were 38 children present and 6 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 4 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with an applicable standard or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B
Description: Based on observation and an interview, the center did not ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. There were two cleaners located in an unlocked cabinet in the toddler classroom.
2. There were cleaners located in an unlocked kitchen. The center representative stated that they regularly keep the kitchen door open.

Plan of Correction: Cleaners in the kitchen will be locked away in the cleaning staff closet. And the cleaners in the toddlers will be locked away in the bottom cabinet where the child lock is located.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-C
Description: Based on observation and an interview, the center did not ensure toilet chairs were emptied promptly and cleaned and sanitized after each use.
Evidence:
The toilet chair located in the bathroom near the toddler classroom contained urine. The toddler classroom was observed napping at the time. The center representative confirmed that the yellow substance located in the toilet chair was urine.

Plan of Correction: The potty will be cleaned before and after every use.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C
Description: Based on observation and an interview, the center did not ensure the required first aid kits contained all of the required materials.
Evidence:
During the virtual inspection on 2/25/2021, the center's first aid kit did not contain triangular bandages. During an interview with the center representative on 3/01/2021, the center's representative stated that there were no triangular bandages located in the center and that the materials may have been moved to the other center's location. The inspector explained the use and gave a description of triangular bandages.

Plan of Correction: Triangular bandages will be purchased and put in the first aid kit.
