Discussed safety concerns regarding facility's instruction for each staff to carry two infants in their arms when walking to the playground.
- Comments:

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 3/10/2021 and concluded on 3/10/2021. A self-reported incident was received by the department on 2/25/2021 regarding daily activity requirements for infants. The facility contacted licensing to seek guidance regarding appropriate ways to transport infants to the play area as they are no longer permitted by their company to use their previous means of transportation. The director was contacted by telephone to conduct the investigation. The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the self-report of non-compliance with standards or law and violations were issued. Staff stated infants were not taken outside on a daily basis due to concerns regarding safely transporting infants.Plan of Correction: We have ordered equipment and are staggering staffing to enable the children to be taken outside safely.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-380-A-1 Description: Based on multiple staff interviews, the center did not ensure that preschoolers were provided with opportunities for outdoor activities daily.
Evidence:
Staff stated a preschool classroom is scheduled to go outside at 3:30 each day. Staff also stated a preschool classroom has not gone outside daily and did not go outdoors on 3/09/2021.Plan of Correction: The director reviewed with staff the requirement for preschoolers to be provided with outdoor activity daily, weather permitting.
