Technical assistance was offered regarding: documentation of updates for children's records; out of state background checks.

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 3/16/21. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 27 children and 7 staff present. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 3 children?s records and 3 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete. A virtual walk through of the center was conducted. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility. The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs. Standard #: 63.2(17)-1721.1-B-4 Description: Based on records review and staff interview, the center did not obtain a sex offender registry check for an employee that lived outside of Virginia within the last five years.
Evidence:
1. Staff # 1's date of hire was 2/26/21. Staff # 1's record indicated that she resided in Maryland within the last five years.
2. Staff # 2 confirmed that Staff # 1's sex offender registry results for Maryland were obtained on 3/2/21, after she began employment at the center.Plan of Correction: We will obtain these results before a new employee begins employment.
