This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on October 16, 2020 and concluded on October 16, 2020. The in-charge person was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 27 children present and ten staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed three children?s records and three staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4 Description: Based on review of three staff records and interview, the facility did not request the results of a sex offender registry check and a search of founded complaints of child abuse or neglect within the required timeframes from any state in which the applicant had resided in the preceding five years for two staff members.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff #1 (hire date 08/28/2020) indicated the staff had resided in another state outside of Virginia within the last five years. The record did not contain a sex offender registry check from the state in which the staff member had resided. The out of state sex offender registry is required to be obtained prior to hire.
2. The record for staff #1 (hired 08/28/2020) indicated the staff had resided in another state outside of Virginia within the last five years. The record did not contain documentation of a request for an out of state child abuse and neglect search by the end of the 30th day employment.
3. The record for staff #3 (hire date 09/28/2020) indicated the staff had resided in another state outside of Virginia within the last five years. The record did not contain a sex offender registry check from the state in which the staff member had resided. The out of state sex offender registry is required to be obtained prior to hire.
4. Staff #4 stated sex offender registry checks and the child abuse and neglect search had not been requested as of 10/16/2020 for staff #1 and Staff #2.Plan of Correction: Staff #4 completed the out of state sex offender registry search for staff #1 on 10/19/2020 and for staff #3 on 10/20/2020. Staff #4 requested the child abuse and neglect search for staff #1 on 10/21/202. Documentation was provided to the licensing inspector.
