Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 3/17/2021 and concluded on 3/18/2021. The director was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 66 children present and 15 staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed three children?s records, two medication records and three staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-D
Description: Based on a staff interview and a review of children's records, the facility did not ensure that one record contained the required medication authorization. Evidence: 1) One non-prescription allergy medicine and one prescription medication was observed for Child #1 and no medication authorization signed by a guardian was present for these medications. 2) During interview, a member of management reported the parental authorizations for these medications were not present.

Plan of Correction: Administration will obtain the required parental authorizations for these medications.

Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4
Description: Based on a review of three staff records, the facility did not obtain the required out of state background checks from all states in which staff members have resided within the last 5 years prior to employment.
Evidence: The licensing inspector observed the record for Staff #3 (Date of HIre: 10/12/2020) contained a sworn statement indicating the staff member resided in Florida within the last five years. 2. The record for Staff #3 did not have a sex offender registry check on file for Florida. 3. The record for Staff #3 did not have an out of state child abuse and neglect search or result on file for Florida.

Plan of Correction: Administration will ensure the required out of state background checks are obtained. Administration will provide licensing with documentation showing the out of state background searches have been initiated within 10 days.
