Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia. A complaint inspection was initiated on 03/15/21 and concluded on 03/24/21. A complaint was received by the department regarding allegations in the areas of Programs. The director was contacted by telephone to conduct the investigation. The evidence gathered during the investigation supported the allegation of non-compliance with standards or law and violations were issued.

Description: Based on staff interviews and observation the center did not ensure verbal remarks were not demeaning to children.
Evidence:
Based on multiple staff interviews, the following statements were said to different children in the 2 year-old room, on occasions of potty accidents:
1. "Why wouldn't you go poop on the potty.?"
2. "Next time I'm going to whoop you."
3. "You're potty trained, why did you have an accident?"
4. "Come on Dude, you've been trained."

Plan of Correction: The following plan of correction was provided by the center:
All staff will be retrained regarding appropriate interactions with children on or before 4/2/2021. (I completed this week) Both school leadership and DM will be conducting regular unannounced camera reviews to ensure compliance.
