Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on May 4, 2021 and concluded on May 4, 2021. There were nine children present and two staff. The inspector emailed the director a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed two children?s records and two staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable licensing standards and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-60-A
Description: Based on a review of records for children, and an interview with administrative staff, the program failed to ensure that records for each child contained all required information. Evidence: The section for information on the second emergency contact for child 2 was blank. Administrative staff indicated that only one emergency contact name, address and phone number was obtained to contact if a parent cannot be reached.

Plan of Correction: The director planned to obtain the second emergency contact name, phone number and address from a parent of child 2 during pick-up so that it is added to the record. The director or staff who accept enrollment forms from parents for new children will make sure all required information, including two emergency contacts, are provided by parents in writing by the time children begin attending.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D
Description: Based on a review of the emergency drill records for 2021, and an interview with administrative staff, the program failed to implement all monthly practice evacuation drills. Evidence: The record of drills did not include information for a drill for January. The program reopened January 11, 2021. Administrative staff indicated that the assigned staff did not conduct an evacuation drill for that month.

Plan of Correction: The director planned to conduct the monthly drill today for May. In the future, the assigned staff will implement a practice for evacuation by children and staff during each calendar month that the program is in operation.
