Technical Assistance:
Inspector discussed 22VAC40-185-560 with the director during this inspection.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on 4/30/21 and concluded on 5/12/21. The program director was contacted to initiate the virtual, remote inspection. There were 14 children present with 2 staff. The inspector reviewed a list of items required to complete the inspection. The inspector reviewed 3 children?s and 3 staff records during the virtual, remote inspection to ensure documentation was complete.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.

The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-4
Description: Based on record review and interview it was determined the center did not obtain a copy of the results of a sex offender registry check and a search of the child abuse and neglect registry or equivalent registry from any state in which the individual has resided in the preceding five years prior to the first day of hire or service.
Evidence:
1. The record for staff #1(hire 8/21/19) did not contain documentation of a search of the criminal history record information check, child abuse and neglect registry and sex offender registry check for Pennsylvania. Staff #1 indicated on their sworn statement that they had lived in Pennsylvania within the last 5 years.
2. Staff #2 confirmed that there were no criminal history record information check, child abuse and neglect registry, and sex offender registry check results from Pennsylvania for staff #1 available during this inspection.

Plan of Correction: Director will resubmit the Pennsylvania background check requests for staff #1.
