Technical Assistance:

A memo dated 06/26/2020 on SB 668 was shared with the center. This bill requires out-of-state background checks to be completed and on site prior to the start date of all applicable staff. This bill was enacted into code on 07/01/2020.

Comments:

This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews, and a virtual tour of the program. A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 07/27/2021. The Director was contacted and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 53 children present, ranging from 16 months to 6 years in age, with 12 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration; physical plant; staffing and supervision; programming; medication; special care and emergencies; and nutrition. A total of 5 children records, and 5 new staff records were reviewed. Information gathered during the inspection determined that there were non-compliances with the applicable standards or law. Standard #:	22VAC40-185-560-G
Description:	Based on observation, food brought from home did not comply with all of the stated requirements. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (07/27/2021), lunch boxes/bags that stored food brought from home for each applicable child were not clearly dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner. 2. While a few did have both the name and date, or just the name of child; the vast majority were not labeled with either.
Plan of Correction:	Classroom staff will be given either tape or sticky tags to place on these lunch boxes/bags as the children arrive. Staff will continue to monitor to ensure all future compliance.
Standard #:	63.2(17)-1721.1-B-4
Description:	Based on review, 1 of 6 new staff files indicated that the Child Day Center (CDC) did not obtain a copy of the results of a sex offender registry (SOR) check from any state in which the individual has resided (in the preceding five years) before reporting to the child day center. Evidence - 1. On the date of inspection (07/27/2021), it was determined that an out-of-state SOR (from the State of New York) was not available for review for Staff #4. 2. The start date for Staff #4 was listed as 03/25/2021.
Plan of Correction:	A request for a SOR from the State of New York for Staff #4 shall be requested within 10 days (if not sooner). Once the finding is obtained, it shall be shared with our Licensing Inspector for his review.
