This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, document review and a virtual tour of the program.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 09/01/2021 and concluded on 09/08/2021. The provider was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 24 children, ages 4 years-12 years, and 3 staff members present during the inspection. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, staff qualifications and trainings, staffing and supervision, physical plant, programs, emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 children?s records, 3 staff records and 1 medication were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the provider.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation and discussion with the staff, the center failed to ensure that when centers choose to provide meals or snacks they shall follow the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the Child and Adult Care Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Evidence: During the 09/08/2021 virtual inspection the children in care were observed having snow cones during afternoon snack. Staff #1 stated that the snow cone was being served as the afternoon snack for the day as a special treat. The afternoon snack served on 09/08/2021, a snow cone, did not meet the most recent, age-appropriate nutritional requirements of a recognized authority such as the USDA.Plan of Correction: The snack listed on the menu will always be served to children in addition to treats on special occasions.
