Technical Assistance:
The Licensed facility is required to have at least one operable carbon monoxide detector in use. The Inspector reviewed this new requirement during the inspection today. It was reported to the Inspector that the center does not currently have a carbon monoxide detector in use, but that one has been ordered and will be installed as soon as it is received.

Discussed the importance of accurately completing all staff background checks.

This inspection was conducted by Licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, and a remote tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was initiated and concluded on 9/17/2021. The Director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 45 children present, ranging in ages from 3years to 5years, with 5 staff supervising. The Inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies. A total of 4 children's records and 4 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Description: Based on a review of staff training documentation, it was determined that there are no staff on site who are currently trained to administer prescription medication.
Of the six staff on site today, none hold current certification in Medication Administration Training. There is one child's emergency prescription medication on site.

Plan of Correction: The MAT certificates recently expired and I am in the process of scheduling staff to attend a renewal training. I will schedule that today for the next available date.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-510-A
Description: Based on a review of children's medications, it was determined that one prescription medication was on site without the required authorization.
One child's long-term emergency prescription medication was on site without a completed medication authorization form signed by the parent.

Plan of Correction: The parent has been asked several times to submit the authorization form. The parent was reminded and will bring it on Monday morning.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.
