This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A renewal inspection was initiated on 11/29/2021 with email & telephone contact. The inspection was completed on 11/30/2021 with an in-person inspection review of the facility. There were 29 children preschool children present with 6 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 children's records and 4 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 22.1-289.035-A Description: Based on record review and interview, the center failed to ensure that employees shall undergo a background check every five years.
Evidence:
1. The most recent central registry check for staff 1 was conducted on 10/02/2012.
2. Administrative staff confirmed that this was the most recent central registry check on file for staff 1.Plan of Correction: An updated central registry check was completed and submitted to OBI on 11/29/2021.
A copy of the results will be forwarded to the inspector when received.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-380-A-1 Description: Based on interview and record review, the center failed to ensure that children have outdoor play for one hour per day or session if the center operates more than five hours per day or session.
Evidence:
1. Multiple staff interviewed stated that outdoor play is scheduled for 30 minutes in the morning with an outdoor walk around the neighborhood.
a. Staff stated that an additional 30 minutes is provided with indoor large motor games in the hall way of the facility.
b. Staff stated that the playground was not in use at this time because the resilient surfacing was low.
2. One hour of outdoor play is required as the children are in care from 8:15 pm until 3:00pm daily according to written information and staff interview.Plan of Correction: The renovation of the playground has started and weather permitting, will be finished soon. Until then, the teachers will temporarily use a designated area in the parking lot, for outdoor play until the playground is completed . To ensure the safety of staff and students, this area will be cleaned and roped off daily by the site's custodian.
