22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from approximately 9:45 am to 10:40 am. At the time of entrance, 29 children were in direct care of 4 staff members. Ratios were in compliance. Staff and children were observed engaged in individual learning activities. The site was clean, organized and contained a varied supply of developmentally appropriate materials. Interactions between the children and staff were positive.
A total of 3 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed. The physical space, emergency supplies, evacuation drills, attendance records, required posted documents, and medications were also reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program. Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-4 Description: Based on record review and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that employees that had lived out of the state of VA within the last 5 years have in their files the result of an out-of-state Central Registry search request within 30 days of employment.
1) The record for Staff #3 (start date 07/14/2020) did not contain documentation of an out-of-state Central Registry search request. Staff #3 had declared in their sworn statement having lived out of the state of VA within the last 5 years before employment.
Plan of Correction: Will request the out-of-state background check ASAP.
