22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on January 27, 2022 and concluded on January 31, 2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 11 children present, ranging in ages from 3 to 4, with 2 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 2 child records and 2 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 22.1-289.035-B-2
Description: Based on record review and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure an employee of a licensed child day center had obtained fingerprinting /criminal records check prior to the 1st day of service.

Evidence: The record for staff #1 and staff #2 who were both working during the inspection did not have documentation of obtaining a fingerprint check prior to employment.

Plan of Correction: Finger print appointments have been made for both staff.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A-8
Description: Based on record review and staff interviews, a written care plan for each child with a diagnosed food allergy, to include instructions from a physician regarding the food to which the child is allergic and the steps to be taken in the event of a suspected or confirmed allergic reaction.

Evidence: The record for child #2 did not include allergy action plans for diagnosed food allergies listed are (raw peaches and raw tomatoes).

Plan of Correction: Once the parent gets the child's allergy action plan from their doctor. We will add it to their chart.
