22.1 Early Childhood Care and Education

HB1823 adds ? 22.1-289.058 to the Code of Virginia. This bill requires all licensed child day programs and religiously exempt child day centers, certified preschools, family day system homes and certain other programs that serve preschool-age children operating in a building built before 2015 to be equipped with at least one carbon monoxide detector.

An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 10:45 am - 12:45 pm with the director. Documentation was reviewed off site and an exit interview was conducted on 2/8/2022. There were 84 children in care, ranging from two months to five years of age, with 15 staff supervising. The children were observed playing in centers, singing and dancing, cleaning up, getting ready for lunch, eating and napping during today's inspection. Lunch served today was: chicken nuggets, green beans, pineapple and milk. Five children's records and five staff records were reviewed and in compliance. One emergency medication was reviewed and in compliance. Four vehicles, the emergency escape drill log, first aid kit, battery operated radio and flashlight were all observed and in compliance. The last health inspection was: 11/22/2021 and the last fire inspection was: 11/17/2021.
