Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A renewal inspection was initiated and concluded on 02/24/2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 20 children present, ranging in ages from 5 years to 12 years, with 2 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 3 child records and 3 staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-245-J-3
Description: Based on interview and review of medication it was determined that children who have been prescribed emergency medication were not always in the care of a staff member who has received Medication Administration Training (MAT). Evidence: The Licensing Inspector (LI) observed emergency medication on site during the inspection. The current staff on site during the inspection were not MAT certified.

Plan of Correction: Administration reported that one staff person who is MAT certified is normally on site, however was not on site during the inspection. Additional staff will become MAT certified to ensure children who require emergency medication are always in the care of MAT certified staff.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on interview and review of medication it was determined that not all procedures for administering medication were followed. Evidence: Staff did not follow procedures to ensure medication was not outdated. The medication for child A on site was past the expiration date. Emergency Medication 1: Expired 02/2021 Emergency Medication 2: Expired 06/2020

Plan of Correction: Administration has requested up to date medication from the parents of Child A.
