Technical Assistance:
The center demonstrated compliance related to the installation of a carbon monoxide detector.

Technical assistance was offered related to: new center regulations; background checks; program lead qualifications; staff trainings and orientation.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on 2/25/22 and concluded on 3/1/22. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were 67 children present in direct care and supervision of 13 staff members. The children were observed engaged in various activities but not limited to: using felt boards, magnetic tiles, counting bears and blocks. Infant bottles, medications and the playground were also assessed. 3 staff records and 4 children's records were reviewed.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-770-60-C-2
Description: Based on records review and staff interview, the center did not obtain results of a child abuse and neglect central registry search for an employee within 30 days of employment.
Evidence:
1. Staff # 1's first day of employment was 8/24/21.
2. Staff # 2 stated that she has a copy of the form that Staff # 1 originally completed, and thinks that the form was mailed out.
3. Staff # 2 further stated that when staff records were being reviewed in December 2021, she noticed that the central registry results were not back for Staff # 1.
4. Staff # 2 mailed out another central registry form for Staff # 1 in January 2022. The results were obtained on 2/26/22.

Plan of Correction: New staff complete the form and form is mailed on or before first day of employment. Follow up with DSS if search results are not received within 7 days and keep documentation. Follow up every week thereafter until received.
