The new Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers is available on line at the Virginia Department of Education website.
All teaching staff are required to obtain 16 hours of relevant training annually.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. Upon arrival there were 10 children present with 2 staff supervising. The children were observed playing floor games, singing songs, handwashing and having breakfast. The physical plant, children's records, staff records, evacuation drill logs, attendance logs and menu's were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance were cited on the violation notice. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A Description: Based on a review of children's records, the center failed to ensure that all required documents are included in the file of every child enrolled.
Child #3's record does not have documentation of names of persons authorized to pick up the child it also does not include the place of employment and work phone number for each parent who has costody;
Plan of Correction: I will contact the parent's and request the information.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
There was Lysol spray by the entry door. In the Pre-K room there was "keep of of reach of children" hand sanitizer on the cabinet, accessible to all children.. In the school age room, there were 2 hand sanitizers marked "keep out of reach of children, accessible to all children. On the counter in the " playroom, there was a bottle of hand sanitizer marked "keep out of reach of children" accessible to all children. On the counter is the 2/3's classroom there was a bottle of hand sanitizer on the counter, the sanitizer was labeled "keep out of reach of children" was accessible to all children.
Plan of Correction: The hand sanitizer will be locked away and used under supervision of staff. Corrected during inspection.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3 Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that all electrical outlets shall have protective covers that are of a size that cannot be swallowed by children.
The Pre-k room had one outlet without a cover.
Plan of Correction: Corrected during inspection.
