22.1 EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and a virtual tour of the program.

A monitoring inspection was initiated on February 23, 2022 and concluded on February 23, 2022. The director was contacted by telephone and a virtual inspection was conducted. There were seven children present, ranging in ages from three years to four years with two staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of two child records and two staff records were reviewed.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-L
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center did not ensure medication, except for those prescriptions designated otherwise by written physician's orders, including refrigerated medication and staff's personal medication, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:

1. Three medications were observed in an bag in an unlocked cabinet. . 2, The staff stated the bag with the medications was not locked.

Plan of Correction: Per the staff: I will lock the cabinet with the medication bag.
