Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was provided in the following areas of the standards: Background checks, Program Leader qualifications, supervision, medication, first aid/emergency supplies, and allergies.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 5/11/22 from 10:30am - 12:30pm. During the inspection there were 49 children ages seven months old through five years old in care with eight staff. Children were observed participating in various activities in the classrooms, playing outside, eating lunch and during rest period. Records were reviewed for five children and five staff. Medication, transportation, emergency procedures, and emergency supplies were reviewed during the inspection. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program, and were discussed during the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the licensee did not ensure that all hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
1. There was a aerosol can of Lysol sitting on top of the shelf by the entry way to the facility.
2. There was a aerosol can of Lysol sitting on the console at the front of each van used for transporting children to and from each school.
3. Staff #5 (Program director) confirmed there were hazardous substances present that were not kept in a locked place.

Plan of Correction: The facility responded: This was corrected during the inspection by placing in a locked location. We used the Lysol for cleaning but going forward we will ensure anything used for cleaning will be kept in locked place when not being used.
