Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 7:25am-8:15am. There were 16 children directly supervised by 2 staff. The physical plant, programming, menus, 2 staff records, 5 children?s records, 6 medications, emergency drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in quiet table top activities, coloring, and playing a group game in the gym. Positive interactions between children and staff were observed during this inspection. There was an adequate supply of age appropriate materials for the children and the center was clean and organized. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-B
Description: Based on review of six medications, the center did not obtain written parental authorization to administer medications for all medications on site.

Evidence: Child #8 has emergency medications on site and does not have a written parental authorization form on file granting the center permission to administer the medication.

Plan of Correction: The written Benadryl medication paperwork was filled out by the parent and returned to Greenville May 17, 2022/

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on review of six medications and staff interview it was determined that the center did not follow procedures to prevent the use of outdated medication.

Evidence: Child #6 has emergency medication on site which expired 2/2022.

Plan of Correction: The expired medication was replaced by the parent on May 18, 2022 am.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-G
Description: Based on documentation review, the center did not maintain documentation of all required monthly emergency evacuation drills.

Evidence: There was no documentation of an emergency evacuation drill conducted in April 2022.

Plan of Correction: Staff recall conducting an evacuation drill on April 6th during the pm shift. However, there is no documentation to back this up. We will be training staff for future evacuation drills to document the information on the sign in/out sheet to have a back up and reminder to log the drill.
