Technical Assistance:
Discussed reviewing the new CDC standards that became effective 10-13-2021 and the new website (Child Care VA) https://www.doe.virginia.gov/cc/.

Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, including telephone contacts, documents review, interviews and an in person tour of the program.
A monitoring inspection was initiated on May 16, 2022 and concluded on May 17, 2022. There were 31 children present, ranging in ages from 6 months to age 5, with 5 staff supervising. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas of administration, physical plant, staffing and supervision, programming, medication, special care and emergencies and nutrition. A total of 5 child records and 5 staff records were reviewed.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-60-A
Description: Based on record review, 3 out of 5 children's records did not contain all required information.
Evidence: The following records were missing information as listed below;
1. The record for child #2 did not include one parent?s home number, home address and employment location and it did not include both parent?s employment phone number.
2. The record for child #3 and child #4 did not include both parent?s employment phone number.

Plan of Correction: Children's records will be completed by Friday.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the licensee did not ensure hazardous substances such as cleaning materials, insecticides, and pesticides shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: In the following areas hazardous chemicals were observed stored in unlocked places as listed below;
1. In the unlocked hall way closet near the restroom, one container of disinfectant cleaner, one container of bleach, one container of glass cleaner, one spray bottle of glass cleaner and 3 containers of laundry detergent.
2. In room #6, in the unlocked red wall cabinet there was one spray container of bleach/ water. The key to the red cabinet was stored inside the red cabinets lock.
3. In room #4, in the unlocked white wall cabinet there were two spray container of bleach/ water.
4. 2. In room #5, in the unlocked white wall cabinet there was one spray container of bleach/ water.
Hazardous Chemicals are labeled "keep out of reach of children" and at least one other statement "caution", "flammable" and "warning".

Plan of Correction: Reiterates with all staff the hall cabinet needs to relocked
Will train other staff about cabinet keys and keeping them separate
Retrained all staff about locking chemicals
Added locks to cabinets were needed

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-G
Description: Based on observation the staff interviews, the license did not ensure when hazardous substances are not kept in original containers, they were clearly labeled with its contents.

Evidence: In bus #1, there was a spay container with blue liquid. Staff #5 indicated the liquid was deicer.

Plan of Correction: Spray bottles will be labeled and the that particular bottle was removed from the bus.
