Technical Assistance:
1. Discussed safe feeding methods, and how feeding a child in a moving walker is not the safest choice.
2. Reviewed reasons for keeping the home warm in the winter when children are in care, and the areas safe. Personal items should be kept out of reach of the children. Additionally, the infant should be given multiple play options every 30 minutes.
3. Provided information on 3 hour training required by 3/1/20, as vendor was unsure if she had completed the course.
4. Forms provided: emergency plan, and attendance.

Comments:
10:30am-12:30pm Annual unannounced subsidy inspection conducted. Observed 2 children = 6 points with the vendor, Adult #1, and Adult #2. Children were playing with toys, and eating lunch during the inspection. The home was found to be sufficiently supplied with toys and equipment for the children. Recordkeeping, health, and safety non-compliances found.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-665-170-B
Description: Based on records reviewed, it was determined that 1 of 2 children's records did not include required information. Evidence: Child #4 - Name, address, and phone number of a emergency contact person. The form states "N/A."

Plan of Correction: Parent will be required to provide information.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-230-E-1
Description: Based on interview conducted, it was determined that the vendor did not know the certification dates of her CPR training. Evidence: She was not able to find the certification card.

Plan of Correction: A copy of CPR certification will be sent to the inspector in 10-days.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-230-E-2
Description: Based on interview conducted, it was determined that the vendor did not know the certification dates of her First Aid training. Evidence: She was not able to find the certification card.

Plan of Correction: A copy of First Aid certifcation will be sent to the inspector in 10-days.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-240-B
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that indoor air temperature was below 65 degrees. Evidence: The temperature was measured to be 63.8 degrees today in the childcare areas of the home.

Plan of Correction: The vendor turned up the heat and it was measured 30 minutes later to be 68.6 degrees.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-370-E-2
Description: Based on interview conducted, it was determined that the diaper changing surface was not non-absorbent. Evidence: The vendor said that she has been changing diapers in the crib, on the actual crib sheet. She said that the old diaper pad was torn and she threw it away.

Plan of Correction: The vendor said she understands that the diaper changing pad needs to be plastic, and will get a new diaper pad. Until that time, she will remove the crib sheet, and change diapers on the plastic mattress.

Description: Based on interview conducted, it was determined that the diaper changing surface has not been cleaned with soap + water and then sanitized with bleach and water after each use. Evidence: Diapers have been changed on a cloth crib sheet which cannot be cleaned + sanitized.

Plan of Correction: The vendor only change diapers on a plastic surface that can be cleaned + sanitized.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-380-H
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that medication was not kept in a locked place. Evidence: A shopping bag of first aid supplies, over-the-counter ointments and medications, and prescription medication was sitting on the floor in the dining area while children were playing approximately 4' away.

Plan of Correction: The vendor said the medication and other products were hers, and removed the bag from the childcare area when prompted.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-390-B-2
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that there were no batteries for the emergency radio.

Plan of Correction: The vendor will buy new batteries.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-410-A-1
Description: Based on records reviewed and interview conducted, it was determined that monthly evacuation drills have not been completed. Evidence: There were no drills recorded for October + November 2019. The vendor said she did not practice drills those months.

Plan of Correction: The vendor will practice drills every months.
