Technical Assistance:
1. Reviewed crib safety requirements. Also, discussed the importance of children not sharing bed linens if they share cribs.
2. Discussed cleaning supplies being stored out of reach of children, and moving these supplies when the older children arrive from school.
3. Explained to the vendor what a religious exemption for immunizations means.
4. Recommended the vendor not feed children in the cribs, and discussed safe feeding practices.
5. Forms provided: emergency plan, and attendance.

Comments:
11:00am-1:00pm Annual unannounced subsidy inspection conducted. Observed 1 child = 4 points with the vendor. Another adult living in the home was also present. The child was playing with toys and watching child appropriate cartoons on TV during the inspection. The home was found to be clean and sufficiently supplied with toys and equipment for the children. The vendor is currently certified in First Aid/CPR. Areas of non-compliance found.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC4-665-340-H-1
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that portable cribs in use do not meet the current CPSC safety standards, and were manufactured prior to 5/1/13. Evidence: (1) The gray Graco crib was made October 2012. (2) The blue Evenflo crib was made March 1998.

Plan of Correction: The vendor said she will ask parents to provide her with newer cribs, made after 5/1/13. The vendor will get new cribs in the next 10-days and send photos of cribs to the inspector.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-240-A
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that equipment used by the children was not clean. Evidence: Cracker, cookie, and cereal food items were found in the bottom of both portable cribs.

Plan of Correction: The vendor said she will clean the food from cribs.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-240-B
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that the indoor air temperature was less than 65 degrees in the main childcare areas. Evidence: (1) When the inspector arrived to the home, Child #12 was wearing a winter coat. (2) The temperature was measured to be 63.7 degrees in the living room/main childcare area.

Plan of Correction: The heat was turned up and the temperature was 68.5 degrees at the end of the inspection, The vendor will lock the front door to better secure it in the door frame to reduce the cold air coming inside.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-240-C-2
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that electrical outlets did not have protective covers. Evidence: A total of 3 outlets in the living room/main childcare area did not have covers today. 2 outlets in a power strip by the TV, and 1 outlet on the wall by the TV.

Plan of Correction: The vendor said she will cover the outlets. Already did today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-665-380-H
Description: Based on observations made, it was determined that medications were not stored in a locked place. Evidence: A total of 4 medicines, 3 over-the-counter and 1 prescription, were found on the kitchen table.

Plan of Correction: The vendor said the medicines belonged to her, and she keeps them there to take in the morning. She will find a new place to keep them locked in the home.
